This Avro 504K aircraft was powered by a 100hp Sunbeam Dyak water cooled engine and was the first income producing aircraft for QANTAS in 1921 in western Queensland. It ran joy rides before securing a mail contract between Longreach and Charleville in 1922. The aircraft is preserved in the QANTAS museum at Longreach. This painting is a depiction of the Avro flying across the sand dunes of the Simpson Desert in the region between Birdsville, Qld. and Alice Springs, N.T.
