An Unusual Place - The Bungle Bungles of Western Australia

The stripes in the rock were ancient algae in a wetter time interspersed with drier times. Some of the oldest rocks on Earth are to be found in W.A. The Bungle Bungles are at the northwestern edge of the Tanami Desert and north of the Great Sandy Desert in the Kimberley region of W.A. They are like nowhere else. There is a huge mural in an art gallery in Kununurra (W.A.) which capture the essence of the Bungle Bungles. It is a two hour trip from the Great Northwest Highway by 4WD to get to Purnululu National Park, which contains the Bungle Bungle Range. Worth the bumps and creeks to get there, but be self sufficient if you go.
